 تنفيذ مشروع المواطنة العالمية في قطر

meeting in cooperation with the UNESCO Regional Office in Doha, the public education sector and the private education sector of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, for brainstorming and developing a vision about the implementation of the global citizenship project in the State of Qatar. The meeting was held  today at 10 a.m. on the 21st floor meeting room at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Hamda Hassan Al-Sulaiti, the Secretary-General of Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, Ms. Hessa Al-Dosari, the head of the UNESCO Department, Dr. Dhabia Al-Sulaiti, the consultant to the National Commission, Dr. Caitlin Sparks and Mr. Daniello Padilla from UNESCO Regional Office in Doha, as well as Ms. Fatima Al-Obaidly, the head of the Activities Department in the General Education Sector, and Ms. Intisar Al-Muhannadi and Ms. Deborah from the Department of Private Schools Affairs.

Ms. Hessa Al-Dosari opened the meeting by welcoming the participants, stating the importance of implementing the project in governmental and non-governmental schools. Ms. Al-Dosari added that the project is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals 4 and 16.

Dr. Caitlin delivered an the introductory presentation on the 10-month project that aims to provide a series of practical workshops to develop conflict-settlement and mediation skills among students from grades 10 to 12. Dr. Caitlin mentioned that the project targets students, parents and teachers.

Dr. Hamda Al-Sulaiti, the Secretary-General of Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, stated that the project is in line with Qatar National Development Strategy 2018-2022 and contributes to achieving SDGs 4 and 16. Dr. Caitlin further said that the project is in line with the UN Secretary-General's Plan of Action on Preventing Violent Extremism, the Security Council Resolution no. 2250 on youth, peace and security, and the UNESCO Operational Strategy on Youth 2014-2021.

Dr. Caitlin stressed on the pivotal and pioneering role that the State of Qatar plays in resolving disputes between the conflicting parties, such as its role in Somalia and its mediation between the Palestinian movements of Fatah and Hamas in Palestine and Beirut.

Dr. Caitlin indicated that a global forum will be organized after the completion of the project, recommending the formation of a project steering committee comprised of partners in this vital project.
