The Second Youth Research Forum on the role of youth in innovation and sustainable development in Qatar got underway at Qatar University (QU) yesterday.

The two-day forum is organized by QU in co-operation with the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and Qatar Youth Hostel Association.

The Youth Forum includes several panel discussions and research papers on a number of topics related to good health and well-being for all, education for all, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure, sustainable cities and communities, and peace, justice and strong institutions.

Vice-President for Research and Graduate Studies Dr. Mariam Al-Maadeed praised the role of the forum in honing the skills of young people and building their capacities in the field of sound scientific research.

This forum is a platform for young people and the voice of male and female students where they meet and present their research and give their views on social and economic priorities, thus reflecting a high sense of citizenship and belonging, she said.

She added that the forum is a valuable opportunity to develop curricula and knowledge and to empower young people with original, creative and individual research and co-operation in the various disciplines and requirements of the sustainable development in the State of Qatar.

Mr. Abdullah Al-Kubaisi, head of the Arab and Islamic affairs section of the Qatar National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, said the forum is a good opportunity for constructive dialogue between students to evaluate and discuss their research and studies on a scientific and human basis.

He also stressed that the Forum contributes to enhancing the creative and critical thinking of the students by using it in solving problems, leading sustainable development projects, conducting meaningful dialogue, respecting the other, and contributing to cultural and civilizational diversity of peoples.

A constellation of researchers and those interested in innovation and sustainable development, and many secondary schools, in addition to student from Oman are taking part in the forum.
