 6/18/2018

(QNA) - Under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum announced that it will organize a travelling international exhibition for dialogue among civilizations and cultures, in cooperation with Qatar Museums, Qatar Museums Authority, the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science and Shell Qatar.
The international exhibition is expected to be held in several European cities during the next two years, starting with a visit to Valletta (Malta) - the capital of European culture - in September, and then moving to other cities, including Paris - the UNESCO headquarters.
The exhibition seeks to promote dialogue between cultures, religions and nations on the importance of cultural heritage. Individuals will have the opportunity to interact with stories on tolerance, inspiration, innovation and understanding, in the context of the themes highlighted by the exhibition.
In a press conference held on the occasion, HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani said that the Museum will partner with the UNESCO to preserve history, culture and traditions so that future generations can learn and benefit, thus enriching the society and influencing it in a positive way.
HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani noted that he has been considering the idea of three travelling museums around the world for years, until finally this exhibition has come to highlight the culture of citizens and residents that deserve to be shown externally, especially in the midst of the attacks on the Islamic and Arab culture, saying that this exhibition represents a practical response to those attacks.
For her part, Secretary-General of the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science Dr. Hamda Al-Sulaiti said that the archaeological and artistic artifacts, heritage collections and all forms of heritage that will be part of the exhibition, will contribute to enriching the human culture and promoting and maintaining diversity and cultural dialogue among individuals around the world.
She noted that the exhibition will build bridges of communication to overcome differences and promote a spirit of tolerance and peace among the peoples of the world.
Dr. Al Sulaiti underlined that the State of Qatar has always been keen on cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and interfaith dialogue, based on the belief of its wise leadership and people in the active role of cultural diversity and the respect for other cultures in the rapprochement between peoples and the promotion of the values of tolerance, peace and security in the world.
Meanwhile, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Doha Anna Paolini said that the international exhibition for dialogue among civilizations and cultures is not simply an exhibition that includes beautiful and purposeful pieces from the collections of Sheikh Faisal Al Thani, but is an example that reveals how artifacts can tell the story of the intertwining of different cultures.
She noted that the exhibition will reveal the important role of museums in providing educational and cultural opportunities to the public, building self-awareness, promoting openness to knowledge and appreciation and understanding of cultural diversity, and adopting lifelong learning.
