​​​​​​​It is one of the standing committees of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The President of Pakistan is Chairman of COMSTECH which is based in Islamabad, Islamic Republic of Pakistan. State of Qatar joined Inter Islamic Network on Information Technology (INIT) in 2004.  

The core mandate of COMSTECH is to monitor the implementation of the resolutions adopted by the OIC in scientific and technological fields. COMSTECH also aims at exploring ways needed for promoting cooperation among the Islamic countries in these areas in addition to preparing programs and proposals that will enhance the capabilities of the member states in such areas.
